Terms of use

These terms apply to everyone who uses Carnoat, the website and the service at carnoat.com. Carnoat is a service of DMOTIV BV, Pampa 3, 2330 Merksplas, Belgium, VAT BE 1038.924.933 ("Carnoat", "we"). By creating an account you accept these terms.
1. What Carnoat is
Carnoat is a private digital archive for cars. You upload invoices, work orders, purchase documents, photos and video; we read them, remove personal details from a copy and build a history of your car. Carnoat also offers a closed marketplace where buyers whose identity has been verified can look for cars and ask their owners for contact.
Carnoat is never a party to the sale of a car. Buyer and seller agree on the price, payment and handover between themselves. We do not hold or pass on any money for a car, and we do not guarantee that a sale takes place.
2. Your account
- You need an account to use the archive and the marketplace. You must be at least 18 years old.
- The details you give us must be correct. Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Before you can contact an owner, or release a car's history to a buyer, we verify your identity through our partner Didit.
3. Your documents and data
- What you upload stays yours. You give us the permission we need to store it, read it, make an anonymised copy and show that copy to the people you choose.
- Upload only documents you are entitled to share. Do not upload documents that are forged or altered.
- We read documents with software, including AI. The result is a reading, not a certificate: you check and confirm it before it becomes part of a history. A verification score describes how well a car is documented on Carnoat, not its condition or value.
- When a car changes hands through a sale confirmed on Carnoat, or through a handover link the owner sent and the buyer accepted, its history, the anonymised copies and their summaries pass with the car to the new owner. Your original documents stay in your account. Send a handover link only for a car you have actually sold or given to that person.
- How we handle personal data is set out in our privacy policy.
4. The marketplace
- The owner decides how a car is shown. Offered discreetly, buyers see an anonymous summary until the owner decides to share more. Offered openly, the car appears among the cars openly for sale, to signed-in accounts and as a teaser on a public page, with its price and mileage as ranges and its photos only after a buyer's identity is verified. A car's documents and its owner's identity are never shown in public: they are only shared after the identity check and with the owner's consent.
- Use the marketplace only with a genuine interest in buying or selling. Do not use it to collect data about cars or owners.
- Treat the other party with respect. We review every report, and may warn you, pause your access to the marketplace or close your account if you break these terms.
5. Prices and payment
- Creating cars is free. Reading documents uses scan credit, bought in packages; scan credit does not expire. Sending a contact request and offering a car openly are free unless the pricing page shows a fee for them; that fee, the Professional subscription and Carnoat Concierge are paid as shown on the pricing page at the time you order.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Prices include VAT where it applies.
- If you are a consumer, you have 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. By asking us to read a document, or to deliver a paid contact request or open listing, straight away, you agree that we start at once and that the right of withdrawal ends once that service has been delivered in full.
6. Carnoat Concierge
Concierge is a service in which a specialist advises and helps you, by phone or WhatsApp. The specialist advises and facilitates; they do not buy or sell on your behalf, do not sign anything for you and never handle the payment for a car. The fee depends on the sale price and is paid only by the party who asked for the service.
6a. Garages and dealers
- A business can register as a garage or a dealer. We check its VAT number against the EU register and a person on our team confirms it before its name appears on Carnoat. The person who registers it confirms they may act for the business.
- A garage may send invoices only to its own customers, and only for work it actually did. Garages use Carnoat for free, within a monthly number of invoices. The customer decides whether to file an invoice in their archive; the garage never sees the customer's car or archive.
- A dealer uses the Professional subscription. A first subscription may start with a free period shown at checkout; you can cancel before it ends without being charged. A dealer may invite colleagues, who work on the dealer's cars on its behalf; the dealer is responsible for what they do. A dealer page and public listings show only the cars the dealer chooses, and only while the subscription runs.
- The business is responsible for the accuracy of what it publishes and sends. We may suspend a business that misuses Carnoat.
7. Liability
We take great care over Carnoat, but we cannot guarantee that it is always available or free of errors. We are not liable for the content of documents uploaded by others, for the condition or value of a car, or for what buyer and seller agree between themselves. Our liability is limited to direct damage and to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event, except in case of intent or gross negligence, or where the law does not allow such a limit.
8. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your settings. We may close an account that breaks these terms, after a warning unless the breach is serious. What happens to your data when an account is deleted is set out in the privacy policy.
9. Changes
We may change these terms. We will tell you about important changes by email at least 30 days before they apply. If you keep using Carnoat after that, the new terms apply.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Belgian law. Disputes go to the courts of Antwerp, Turnhout division, unless the law gives you, as a consumer, the right to go to the courts where you live. You can also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
