The Vault

A private home for your car's history.

The Vault keeps every invoice, work order and photo of your cars in one place: encrypted, in order and checked. It is free to start, and it is yours whether or not you ever sell.

Adding a car needs no documents. Your first 3 documents are included.

What you keep

Anything that tells your car’s story, from the first bill of sale to last week’s oil change.
Invoices and work orders
Printed or handwritten, from a dealer or from the specialist down the road.
Purchase documents
Bills of sale and registration papers: the chain of owners, without their names.
Photos and videos
Of the work, the restoration, a concours. They are placed with the event they belong to.
Your own notes
What the paperwork leaves out. Only you see them, never a buyer.

The Provenance Builder

Drop & Done.

Loose paperwork in, a provable history out. No forms, nothing to type.
  1. Drop it in

Drop files on the car's page, take a photo with your phone, or forward an email to the car's own address. Fifteen invoices at once is as easy as one.

  2. Read like a specialist

Date, mileage, cost, garage and the work done are read in any language, handwriting included. Each value is checked against a second, independent reading of the page.

  3. Personal details removed

Names, addresses, phone and account numbers are blacked out on a copy. The garage stays: a buyer wants to know who did the work. A person checks every copy.

  4. You confirm

You see what was read, with any value worth a second look marked. An invoice and its work order become one event; where they disagree, you see both.

  5. One history, in order

Everything lands on a timeline by year, with mileage and costs, and a verification score that grows with every document.

The Carnoat app

Your archive in your pocket.

Photograph an invoice at home or on the road, and it is in your archive. The app follows the same rules as carnoat.com: the same redaction, the same checks.

Coming soon for iPhone and Android.

Scan
Photograph an invoice, a work order or a purchase document: the pages become one PDF and go straight into your archive.
Share into Carnoat
An invoice in your mail or a photo in your camera roll: share it to Carnoat, and it is filed in the car it is about.
Notifications
You know at once when a document has been read, or when something needs your attention.
Face ID or fingerprint
Your archive opens only for you. Without a signal, an upload waits on your phone and goes as soon as you are back online.

The copy others may see.

Your original stays in The Vault, encrypted, and only you and the person who checks it ever see it. What a buyer or an insurer may see is this copy, and only once it has been checked.

Removed: the owner, their address and phone number, the mechanic’s name.Kept: the garage, the date, the car, its mileage and the work done.

A score that shows the evidence.

Out of 100, always with every factor behind it. It weighs the documents, never the person, and only documents a person has approved count.
Ownership checked
A document that matches the car. 20 points.
Documented history
The more approved documents, the more points. Up to 30.
Years covered
How much of the car’s life the documents span. Up to 20.
Mileage consistent
Two or more readings, never going backwards. Up to 20.
Owner verified
The owner passed an identity check. 10 points.

Car Passport

A file you can hand to anyone. Proof they can check.

A link and a PDF for an auction house, an insurer or a buyer. Every passport carries a code that anyone can verify on Carnoat, without seeing who you are.

How the Car Passport works

Shared, kept, handed on.

Shared access
Let a partner, a caretaker or a storage facility read the history, or add documents for you. Never the originals, never anything about selling.
The provenance book
The complete history as a typeset PDF, bought once per car and downloadable again as the history grows.
Handed on with the car
Sell outside Carnoat, and the next owner can receive the history with one link. Your originals stay yours.

Yours, always.

The originals belong to the account that added them, also after a sale.

Delete any document whenever you like, or download everything you keep in one file. Selling is never required: most owners use The Vault only to keep a history they can prove.
